Photo Feature - Michael Still

"I remember my first day on the SCV Media Team back in 2013. A shy, 20-year-old boy from small town Iowa had somehow found himself halfway across the country in Weed, CA with one of the most iconic drum corps in history. Originally, I had been hired to write web articles and post to social media, so you can imagine my surprise when they handed me a camera and asked if I had any photography experience. I had none… but I was definitely about to get some.

I took this new challenge head on and quickly found a love for photography I never knew was there! My first summer was a lot of “learning by doing” and “fake it ‘til you make it” but the harder I pushed myself, the better I got, and deeper in love I fell. Now, nearly 8 years later, I am still finding ways to grow and challenge myself through my creative work at Vanguard. And although I never marched drum corps, I can certainly attest to the life-changing effect it has on a person.
